Lanzerac

Watercolour of the Stellenbosch valley.
Illustration of the Stellenbosch valley. Not a photograph of this estate.

On Lanzerac Road, toward Jonkershoek. The manor is a hotel, so the visit can be a tasting or a night. It is not a hop from the Helshoogte ridge.

A short history

The farm began in 1692 as Schoongezicht, a fine view, under Isaac Schrijver, who planted the first vines. The manor gable dates from 1830.

In 1920 Elizabeth English bought Schoongezicht and renamed it Lanzerac. At the end of the 1950s it became a hotel. The visit can be a tasting or a night, on the Jonkershoek road rather than Helshoogte.

Opening times

The tasting room publishes its own hours, and they change. Check before you drive.
