About Wine Fly

Wine Fly is an independent guide to vineyards in the Cape. It has been online since October 2025, it's written for adults, and it doesn't sell wine, take bookings, or run a shop.

What this site is for

It's for planning a day in the Cape winelands. The vineyard list names the estates and why you'd drive there. The map on the homepage picks up the smaller cellars around a town. The guides cover how wine is made here, what the main styles taste like, and which vineyards suit a first visit, a couple, a family, or a pet. The games page has a wheel for picking a valley or something to look for, and three levels of questions about the grapes, the roads, and the labels.

It's for travellers and locals who want a sense of the day before they head out: which region, what a visit is like, and where lunch fits. There's no shop and no payment for wine, tastings, or a bed.

How the map is built

Place names and coordinates come from OpenStreetMap, searched through the public Overpass API when you choose a region or use your location. Wine Fly does not keep a private database of your searches and does not run user accounts.

OpenStreetMap is updated by volunteers, so a listing can be missing, duplicated, or out of date. Hours, tasting fees, pet rules, and whether children are welcome should always be confirmed on the estate’s own website or by phone before you travel. Buttons on the map open the estate site or Google Maps directions. Those sites are not operated by Wine Fly.

How the guides are written

The route and education pages are original articles for people planning a visit. They describe regions, grape varieties, and the kind of experience an estate is known for. They are a starting point, not a guarantee of what is open this weekend. If an estate has changed its family facilities, pet policy, or tasting format, use the contact page and we will correct the guide.

Family-friendly pages are written for parents organising a day out. Playgrounds, lawns, and the odd duck parade are the reason those vineyards are on the list.

How the site is funded

Wine Fly is funded by advertising through Google AdSense. Ads are labelled “Advertisement” and sit apart from the map, the buttons, and the articles. We do not ask anyone to click ads, and we do not sell visitor data ourselves. Details of cookies, Google’s role, and your choices are in the privacy policy.

Who runs it
