Kanonkop

The Pinotage and the Paul Sauer blend are why people drive here. It sits between Stellenbosch and Paarl, so it is a poor add-on to a Franschhoek lunch.

Cabernet

A short history

The name is the cannon hill on the Simonsberg. A cannon there was fired to tell farmers that a ship had entered Table Bay, so they could load wagons for the harbour.

Paul Sauer farmed the lower slopes, and the first wine under the Kanonkop label was the 1973 vintage. His grandsons, Paul and Johann Krige, run it now. Pinotage and the Paul Sauer blend are why people drive here.
