Franschhoek

It's one valley, and lunch is part of the afternoon rather than a gap between stops. Adding it after a Stellenbosch morning is how you end up late.

The wine tram hops between vineyards if you would rather leave the car in the village.

Open a name for the reason to stop, the map pin, and the estate site. Those notes stay on the vineyard list.

How the day goes

Book a lunch table first and plan the tastings around it. Babylonstoren and Boschendal sit near the mouth of the valley, so they work as the first stop on the way in. La Motte, Grande Provence and Haute Cabrière are closer to the village. The main street is small enough to walk, and most people end up there for coffee at some point.

Before you go

The wine tram runs set routes with hop-on stops. Read the route before you book, because not every estate is on every line. December and summer weekends fill the village, and the good tables go early. If bubbles are the point, Haute Cabrière is known for its Cap Classique.
