Elgin

Paul Cluver

Watercolour of the Elgin valley.
Illustration of the Elgin valley. Not a photograph of this estate.

Elgin's familiar name. Pinot and Chardonnay, and an amphitheatre in the trees. Cooler than Stellenbosch, which is why the same grapes taste different.

Pinot · Lunch

A short history

Elgin was apple and pear country. The Cluver family farmed fruit at De Rust, and the vineyards people visit now were planted in 1986. Early vintages were made at Nederburg. The cellar on the farm opened in 1997.

Pinot and Chardonnay are the bottles, and there is an amphitheatre in the trees. The valley is cooler than Stellenbosch, which is why the same grapes taste different.
