A garden you walk, then a long lunch, on the road in from Paarl. If you are driving back to Cape Town the same day, this is the visit.

A short history

In 1692 Simon van der Stel granted Pieter van der Byl a piece of land under a conical hill. Farmers thought the hill looked like the Tower of Babel, and the name stuck. The manor dates from 1777.

The garden you walk now was designed after the farm changed hands in 2007, and it opened to the public in 2010. If you are driving back to Cape Town the same day, this is the visit.
