Robertson

People make the trip for bottle-fermented sparkling wine. It's too far to bolt onto a Stellenbosch afternoon.

Let the valley be the day. Eat in town, and leave while the pass is still easy.

Open a name for the reason to stop, the map pin, and the estate site. Those notes stay on the vineyard list.

How the day goes

Robertson is about two hours from Cape Town, through the Huguenot Tunnel and past Worcester. Graham Beck is the name most people know for Cap Classique. Springfield is out along the Breede River, so allow time for the drive between the two.

Before you go

Summer days are hot and dry, so start early. The Breede River runs through the valley, and a slow boat trip is a popular way to spend the afternoon after lunch. A lot of visitors stay the night, because the long drive home after a big lunch is not the one you want.
