Durbanville

Windy hills north of the city, closer than most people expect. Useful when the N2 toward Somerset West is already stuck.

Most people come for Sauvignon. A Saturday here is quieter than Stellenbosch, which is half the appeal.

Open a name for the reason to stop, the map pin, and the estate site. Those notes stay on the vineyard list.

How the day goes

The vineyards sit on rolling hills about half an hour north of the city, so you can start late and still fit two tastings and lunch. Durbanville Hills has the big view back toward Table Mountain. Meerendal and Nitida are a short drive from each other, which makes the second stop easy.

Before you go

The breeze off the Atlantic keeps these hills cooler than you would guess, and that is why the Sauvignon tastes the way it does. Bring a jacket if you plan to sit outside late, even in summer. Bloubergstrand is not far, if the day needs a beach walk that isn't a tasting.
