Written for the adults doing the planning. The playground is for the children.
Written for parents planning the day. These vineyards have room for children to be outside: lawns, animals, and at least one parade of ducks.
One adult can watch the playground while another is in the tasting room. The ducks do not mind either way.
Spier is the easy family booking: a big playground, the cheetah outreach, eagles, and pony rides. Restaurants at more than one price. Parents can swap who is tasting and who is watching, or book the children into an activity and sit down together.
Blaauwklippen offers a genuine vineyard experience. Kids can see vineyard animals (horses, sheep, chickens), explore the property, and most excitingly, take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the vineyards. The estate has a large lawn perfect for picnics, and the restaurant serves excellent family-style meals. The working vineyard atmosphere gives kids a real sense of where wine comes from.
Warwick combines excellent wine with a "First Lady" food and wine pairing that includes chocolate, always popular with kids. The estate has a dedicated play area visible from the tasting room and picnic areas. Their cheese and charcuterie platters are substantial enough to keep little tummies full while parents taste wine.
Zorgvliet has one of the best playgrounds in the Winelands, tucked into a shaded area with a jungle gym, slides, and swings. The restaurant serves family-friendly portions, and the estate actively welcomes children. Adults can sit on the terrace and see the play area. Children do not taste. The relaxed vibe makes it feel like visiting family rather than a formal wine estate.
Kleine Zalze's terrace restaurant overlooks a beautiful garden and pond. Kids can walk around the grounds safely, and the restaurant has a dedicated kids' menu with quality options (not just nuggets!). If you're making a weekend of it, their lodge has family rooms and a pool. The estate strikes a perfect balance between being child-friendly and maintaining a quality wine experience.
Twice a day, Indian Runner ducks walk through the vines for pest control. Children usually like that more than the cellar. There's a picnic option and lawns, so one adult can watch the parade while the other tastes.
Alto's hilltop location offers stunning views, and the estate has ample space for kids to explore. While not specifically designed as a kids' destination, the relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff make families feel welcome. The picnic offering is generous, and children can use the lawn.
