A short history

On 13 July 1685 Simon van der Stel was granted the valley behind Table Mountain and named it Constantia. He died in 1712. At the 1716 auction the farm was split into three, and this is the piece that kept his homestead.

Hendrik Cloete bought it in 1778. The Cloete family held it until the 1885 sale, after phylloxera had ruined the vines. The sweet Constantia of those years was shipped to Europe. The manor and the old cellar are why the grounds take as long as the tasting.
